How to read and understand job offers

1. Filter out Requirements of Job Offers

Most Job Offers have a list of requirements for their applicants. These can include experiences in specific fields or with specific tasks as well as character traits.

What they write:
– 5 years of experience in a specific field
What they want:
– Have more than a brief experience in this field, 5 years though are not a must

What they write:
– Work with minimal supervision
What they want:
– Don’t act like a child or an idiot who can’t think alone

If you go through their list and filter it this way, do you pass? Good, then you can apply!

2. If you are not qualified, don’t apply

Seriously, just don’t. Do you really think they will think “Oh, we need someone who already knows how to do the work, but we will just change our strategy and hire someone who has no clue”? They won’t.
If you apply while being not qualified, they will just reject you. Use the time instead to put more effort into applications you are qualified for.

3. What companies like to see from applicants

Companies search for new staff members to expand or replace their workforce. In general it is the target of the company to generate more income with a staff member than having to spend.

  • If you have to be instructed, it generates expenses (also by binding other resources to instruct you)
  • If you don’t think yourself and ask all the time, you generate expenses
  • If you solve everything on your own though without asking and make mistakes, you might cause a LOT of expenses.
Better find a middle way when to ask and when to find the solution on your own – and always keep good communication!
  • If you work fast, it generates more income
  • If you are detail-oriented, you make less mistakes and generate more income

I guess you get the idea.
And companies evaluate applicants based on how good they will fit into the position to maximize the income and limit the expenses as good as possible.
So let’s work on showing your future employer the real value of employing you by creating an interesting CV / Resume.
